From the recording Bangsokol: A Requiem for Cambodia
An estimated 600,000 people were killed in the civil war between 1970 - 75 and approximately 2 million (or a quarter of the 1975 population) during the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime (1975 - 79). For Khmer people, proper funeral rites are essential for the spirit to have peace after death, but especially during the KR period these ceremonies were not provided. As a result the spirits keep "wandering alone".
